Ian Patrick
Ian "Robb" Patrick '87 was a seven year man at Severn. He came in the seventh grade and by senior year was vice president of the senior class, playing soccer, singing with the choir, The Madrigals, and performing in musicals and plays. He was a Maryland State Talent in the Arts semifinalist among other honors. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree at University of Colorado, Boulder and graduate degree in finance at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Ian continues to be a loyal friend to Severn by staying in touch, returning for class reunions, and giving a gift every year since 1994. He recently notified us that he has included Severn in his will by leaving a bequest. By letting Severn know about his thoughtful generosity he is now a member of The Severn 1914 Society.
We asked a simple question: "Why?"
"I am very grateful for the years I spent at Severn. Other than my parents, nobody had a greater impact on how I developed as a person than the teachers, coaches, and staff at Severn. Looking back I realize how much the teachers cared about me not just as a student but as a person, and they were passionate about helping me realize my potential. Severn was more than just a school for me; it was my second home and my second family. I feel like Severn made an emotional and intellectual investment in my development as a human being and I want to help those teachers, coaches, and staff continues to be able to touch the lives of children going forward for years to come. By including Severn in my will, I feel like I am able to pay Severn a dividend on the investment it made in my development as an individual, and help ensure that the same opportunity will be available to future generations." Robb lives in Richmond, Virginia with his two daughters, Katie and Devon and is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch. He has been quoted in several publications including Entrepreneur and Research magazines and enjoys soccer, golf, and skiing. He is the contemporary music director for Christ the King Lutheran Church, vice-president of the Rotary Club of Huguenot Trail, and an active member of the James River Advisory Council, the James River Association, and Junior Achievement of Virginia.
